------Back in 1999 I purchased my first digital camera. It was just 800k pixels, but digital made photography affordable on a teenager's income. My true passion for photography started three years earlier along with my interest in meteorology. At that time I began documenting clouds, especially those relating to severe or unusual weather. Beginning in sixth grade, I would ride my bike across town to welcome coming thunderstorms and then race back home to safety. My parents thought I was crazy of course, but I thoroughly enjoyed the science and the certain uncertainty of severe weather. Discovering a creative talent and an eye for photography, I continued to capture weather events along with new and different subject matter. Every spring since, I've traversed Iowa and neighboring states to bring my joy of storm chasing and photography to all of you browsing safely at home. On that note, never put yourself in harm's way to capture images of severe weather. Storm chasing and photographing storms has considerable risk to life and property. I've been studying tornadoes and storms for almost two decades, and I still approach each storm with respect for its unpredicatbility. Photography is my passion, and I take pride in my dedication to detail, artistry, and to sharing the experience. I seek excellent color and contrast, as well as purposeful compositions. My style relies on natural lighting whenever possible. The biggest thrill is documenting the moment, not doctoring it. If you would like to contact me for freelance work or wish to own a print, please reach me at the email address below. I'd also like to hear any comments or stories about the weather in the midwest. I currently reside in Des Moines, IA. Thank you for viewing my work! |
